Larkshill Stud is set in a beautiful secluded location in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside - providing an idyllic setting for breeding tomorrow’s dressage stars.
Core to Larkshill Stud’s ethos is that horses should be allowed to be horses and do what nature intended: grazing 24 hours a day if they choose and galloping and playing in the fields. Studies have shown that this “natural” exercise is essential to strengthen the young horses’ tendons and young muscles.
For this reason, our horses live as a herd as naturally as possible. They live out all year round, with free access to big barns in the winter - coming and going as they please and of course growing their own big wooly coats to keep them warm! The foals benefit from being brought up in a herd as they learn all the necessary social skills from the older horses.
We nurture our little stars ensuring they have the very best start in life. They receive the best veterinary attention, feed, are vaccinated, wormed and have their hooves trimmed regularly. They are handled everyday and we keep numbers low so each horse can have the attention they deserve. We make all new experiences fun for them - the end result is well behaved loveable young horses that are eager to work.
World Class Bloodlines
Our goal is to breed world class dressage horses with attributes critical to the modern performance horse; outstanding movement, correct conformation and above all, superb trainable temperaments.
Our broodmares carry the bloodlines of the some of the world’s leading dressage stallions including E.H. Hohenstein, De Niro, and Sandro Hit. Using only the best stallions from across Europe to compliment our mares’ qualities is paramount in our breeding programme.
We would be delighted if you would like to come and meet the herd, just call or email us.
